1: The good, inexpensive and humble favorites

Trattoria Valentino

Via Cavour 293
00184 Roma

Good and inexpensive restaurant with modest, classic decor, located close to the Roman Forum and Coliseum. Informal service and atmosphere, with the option to eat outdoors in the warmer months. It is advisable to book a table in advance.

"Spaghetti Carbonara" - Charcoal burner Spagetti - is a Roman classic

Hostaria da Nerone
Via delle Terme di Tito 96

Yet another gem with wonderful location on the Colle Oppio hill, directly opposite the Coliseum. Good, well-prepared Roman specialties that can be enjoyed in the cozy interior or at one of the outdoor tables when the weather is warm – even on a nice, sunny winter day. It is highly recommended to book a table in advance.

"Saltimbocca" - Veal medallions with Parma Ham and sage leaves in a white wine sauce. "Jump in the mouth" is the translation

Ristorante Pizzeria Da Francesco

Piazza del Fico, 29

Located in a nice little square close to Piazza Navona. One of the few places in the center of Rome that has maintained its traditional and authentic style, quality and service.
This place is frequented mostly by locals, but welcomes tourists, too.
Typical Roman and Italian cooking including a wood-fired pizza oven. One of the best and most affordable places to have dinner.

2: Good mid-range restaurants...

Centrally located in a lovely square just off the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, which is the major road that connects Piazza Venezia with St. Peter's Basilica.

Da Luigi serves delicious specialties from the modern Italian cuisine.
Nice decor in old-fashioned, classic style.
Outdoor tables on the pleasant piazza.
It is advisable to book a table in advance.

"Gnocchi alla Romana" - potato gnocchi
is often on the menu in Rome.

Enjoy a nice dinner in historic surroundings.
The restaurant is located in the ruins of the ancient Pompey Theatre, near the spot where Julius Caesar was assassinated.
Nice and interesting atmosphere created by the design among the ancient walls. Really good cooking.
Here you can sample the delicious buffalo mozzarella and the homemade warm liver pâté which almost melts on your tongue.
Opportunity to book a table in a separate room for smokers.
It is advisable to book a table in advance.

Ristorante Maccheroni

Superbly located in the medieval neighborhood between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.

Casa Copelle

Situated beside the above mentioned Ristorante Maccheroni.
A little more stylish and slightly higher quality.
Here they make an extra effort with the presentation of the food and a "touch" of nouvelle cuisine.
Their meats are of high quality.
Excellent service and very reasonable prices.
It is advisable to book a table in advance.

Refined yet informal atmosphere in the heart of Rome.

Friendly and attentive service of a high standard.
A fashionable restaurant with a cosmopolitan clientele.
